Our new arrangement of Tambourin by the revolutionary Gossec

By | sheet music sales

The latest string duet arrangement we are selling is Tambourin by Francois Joseph Gossec. Gossec was born in 1734 and became the favourite composer of Revolutionary France. Today he is most famous for Tambourin – a delightful piece which lifts the spirit, as you can hear in this vibrant flute and harp arrangement:

Our arrangement is fun to play

The link to the French Revolution
Who would ever guess that such a relaxed tune was written during the French Revolution or that Gossec’s compositions were loved by Robespierre?

Our new string duet arrangement of Bach’s most famous work

By | sheet music sales

We have just published our violin and cello duet arrangement of Air on a G String – perhaps Bach’s most famous work.
Creating this arrangement
This piece has been a challenge to arrange for string duet. Roger and I both tried writing versions but neither felt quite right, so we abandoned the idea. However, the problems somehow resolved themselves and Roger created the arrangement we are selling now which is beautifully balanced and calm. Click here to buy it on our Music Sales’ page…

Fab string music performances!

Great string playing
It is hard not to admire the stunningly vibrant performance of Bach’s Double Violin Concerto by Rachel Podger and Andrew Manze at the Proms a few years ago (see the last movement in the link below)

https://youtu.be/k1vEAsJpZ_w

About the playing
Their interpretation is of full of energy and the different styles of the two soloists adds to the vitality. I also love the fact that this is a robust, romantic version of Bach played on ‘modern’ string  instruments.

Great Cello Duets to Explore
Duets are a wonderfully enjoyable form of chamber music and cellist Mark Bailey and I recently recorded a cello duet which had been written by our former teacher Christopher Bunting and is based on the Bourees from Bach’s 3rd cello suite and has some tricky string crossing,  lots of character and definite sense of humour. Listen below:

Other wonderul cello duets  include Handel’s Cello Duet in G minor  and Vivaldi’s Double Cello Concerto – also in G minor.

Buy Jerome Kern’s String Duets Here!

By | sheet music sales

Jerome Kern’s music is now out of copyright and today we have added five violin and cello duet arrangements of his music to our website.Love, in its many moods, is the theme for all but one of these songs; the exception is Pick Yourself Up – a delightful, confidence-boosting piece of positive thinking.YOu can buy the music at our shop by clicking here:

Why this is a dream to play
From a string player’s point of view Kern’s music has great fluidity of line which makes it easy to phrase, and it also has a joyful sense of abandon which is ideal for romance. Jerome Kern himself, however, was very down to earth and declared himself nothing more than a “ musical clothier – I write music for the lyrics and situations in plays.”  Luckily for us  his classical training, craftsmanship and empathy for mood have ensured his music sounds as spontaneous and effortless today as it did 100 years ago.

Sensuous sheet music for sale…

You can now buy our arrangement of Monteverdi’s Chiome d’Oro (Golden Head of Hair) at our violin and cello duet wedding sheet music online shop here:
http://www.fedorastrings.com/shop/
This lively and vibrant piece is one of Monteverdi’s erotic madrigals and is about the attractions of women and the effect they have on men. Here’s a translation of the opening words: “Golden head of hair, beautiful treasure, you entwine me in a thousand ways, whether bound or loose…”

About the music Our arrangement of Chiome d’Oro has lots of interplay in the parts. As with almost all baroque music, dynamics are not included so feel free to add your own. We have written out some suggested elaborations of the opening repeats and you could certainly do more if you wanted. The overall mood of the music is energising and happy.

About Monteverdi
Monteverdi was  a successful and famous composer and he became a priest towards the end of his life. In this respect he bears a similarity to  his contemporary, the great English poet John Donne. If their paintings are accurate the two men looked remarkably alike when they were young.

Our latest famous string duet arrangement – Una Furtiva Lagrima

By | sheet music sales

Our sheet music string duo arrangement of Una Furtiva Lagrima ( A Furtive Tear) is now available. This hauntingly beautiful tune is the most famous aria from Donizetti’s opera L’Elisir D’Amore  ( The Love Potion) and it seems incongrous that it comes from a comic opera as it  completely transcends its context.
The plot of the opera
L’Elisir D’Amore tells the story of a village boy called Nemorino who falls in love with  Adina. To win her affection he buys a ‘love potion’ from a visiting quack doctor – not realising that it only contains wine.
About our arrangement
In our arrangement the cello has the tune for a great deal of the time – reflecting the fact that it is a tenor aria. You can buy our duet of the aria here:

New Violin and Cello Duet Music: The Prince of Denmark’s March

By | sheet music sales | No Comments

We are now selling our arrangement of The Prince of Denmark’s  March by Jeremiah Clarke online. This famous celebratory piece is frequently played at wedding ceremonies and  has lots of elaboration and flourishes. Click here to hear a recording and buy our version of the music
http://www.fedorastrings.com/shop/
So, who was the prince?
The Prince of Denmark was the husband of Queen Anne and reigned over Great Britain from 1702 and the couple had a long and happy life together. George was said to be quiet and self effacing and although he was thought ineffectual by Charles 2nd, he was admired by others for his homely virtues and unfailing good humour. It sounds like he would have enjoyed the music Clarke wrote for him.

Duo wedding violin and cello music at Orton Hall Hotel, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

Orton Hall Hotel is one of the best wedding venues in Peterborough, so we were delighted  when our string trio was invited to play wedding music here again a couple of weeks ago.

We performed for  three hours during drinks and the wedding breakfast, moving from the conservatory – which is light and airy – to the main dining room.

The bride and groom had chosen extremely elegant decorations for the table settings and, as this was an Italian wedding, they had asked us to include some Italian music; so we played  Ave Maria, a selection from Vivaldi’s The Seasons, Italian arias – including Nessun Dorma and pieces from  La Boheme, La Traviata and Rigoletto – and  our own sheet music arrangement of Speak Softly – the love song  from The Godfather movie.

Orton Hall is an 18th century manor house surrounded by 20 acres of beautifully cared for grounds, which give  it a very open, relaxed feel. Organisation was excellent  throughout the day and the weather was wonderfully warm for October.
