J.S. Bach Cello Suites 1 and 3 – Joanna Borrett
Sunshine and Serenity
You can only interpret music the way you feel it should be. For me, Bach’s first and third cello suites are full of life, joy and happiness;they also have a calm and sense of perspective that is remarkable. Although well respected, Bach was nowhere near as famous to his contemporaries as he is today and only a tiny fraction of his music was published in his lifetime. From his letters Bach seems to have had a very practical and down to earth side to his personality and I think it’s helpful to remember this in performance while also appreciating the extreme beauty of his compositions.
This recording was made at Wadenhoe Church in Northamptonshire – which is peacefully situated on the top of a hill and has wonderful views of the countryside.I hope you will enjoy this marvellous music, written by one of the greatest composers who ever lived.
